This is a seven week course designed for dogs six months or older that have had either no, or a limited amount of, previous training. This course is also a good place to start with a newly adopted dog.

The topics covered during this course are: sit, down, stay, come when called, loose lead walking, heeling, drop it, leave it, proper greetings with other dogs or people, proper manners (not jumping, mouthing, excessively barking).

 

We also practice keeping the dogs attention around distractions (for example passing other dogs while on leash).

The method of training used in class is operant conditioning, with the focus being on positive reinforcement.

Students should bring their dogs on a regular (not retractable leash) and make sure they have plenty of treats for class.
